The highway along Burke Airport between downtown (East 9th Street) and Gordon Park is a desolate stretch. GRC is taking the initiate the steps to beautify the area by developing sponsored pocket gardens and floral and wild flower installations. We have approached Holden Gardens + Forests to partner in the design of these facilities. The concept mirrors the “Rapid Recovery,” which created and managed the beautification efforts along the Red Line from the airport to downtown.
As an initial step, GRC has approached Cleveland Public Power to adopt the small park adjacent to their inactive power plant north (building with whale paintings) of the East Shoreway. Holden and Metroparks have been invited to join a collaboration to create a little green oasis – rest area for cyclists, and picturesque spot for fishing and enjoying the inner harbor.
